10 DRUGS THAT ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED DURING PREGNANCY.

Today we will discuss commonly used medications in our community for treating various illnesses, readily available in the local area. Unfortunately, some of these medications should never be given to pregnant women due to the significant risks they pose to the developing fetus. The following are such medications:

  1. Albendazole: This is an anti-worm medication commonly used to treat worms. However, it is highly unsafe for pregnant women as it can cause miscarriage. Mebendazole is often used as an alternative.

  2. Gentamycin: This injectable medication is primarily used to treat urinary tract infections. It can damage the auditory nerve, leading to deafness in newborns if used during pregnancy.

  3. Ciprofloxacin: Available in tablet and injectable forms, this medication is often used to treat typhoid, urinary tract infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases. It can affect the development of a baby's bones, potentially resulting in a child's disability.

  4. Doxycycline: Found in capsule form, this antibiotic is used to kill various bacteria. Unfortunately, if used in the first three months of pregnancy, it can interfere with fetal organ development, leading to a child with missing or extra body parts.

  5. Malaria Combination Therapy (ALU): While generally safe during pregnancy, it can interfere with early fetal development, particularly in the first three months, leading to abnormalities.

  6. Metronidazole (Flagyl): This antibiotic is often used to treat amoebic infections and reproductive system diseases in women. If used in the first three months of pregnancy, it can interfere with the development of the baby's organs.

  7. Misoprostol: This prostaglandin analog is used to induce labor and treat stomach ulcers. However, its use during pregnancy can have severe consequences, including inducing a miscarriage.

  8. Aspirin: A common pain reliever, aspirin can cause excessive bleeding, especially in mothers with certain pregnancy complications like placenta previa. It is not advisable during pregnancy.

  9. Praziquantel: This medication treats certain waterborne parasites and is extremely dangerous for pregnant women as it interferes with fetal growth.

  10. Furosemide: A diuretic used to reduce fluid retention and treat high blood pressure. It is not suitable for pregnant women, as they already tend to have lower blood pressure and this medication can further reduce it.

In conclusion, never use any medication during pregnancy without consulting a doctor, as it poses serious risks to both your life and the well-being of your child.

THE USE OF ARV's INJECTIONS STARTS IN THE UNITED STATES.

Researchers have conducted extensive studies to alleviate the burden of HIV/AIDS medication users who have long complained about the fatigue associated with long-term pill consumption. Scientists have developed a monthly injectable antiretroviral drug (ARV) as a solution. The current injection combines cabotegravir and rilpivirine.

What is the quality of this drug?

Two studies were conducted, one involving long-term HIV patients who were switched from oral medication to the injectable, and another with newly diagnosed HIV patients who started this injection. Both studies showed positive results in suppressing the HIV virus.

What are its side effects?

So far, no specific side effects have been announced regarding this drug, except for the usual pain during the injection, which is common for all types of injections.

Is this drug available in Tanzania?

As of now, this drug has not been introduced in Tanzania. However, it has been approved and is in use in Canada, the United States, and all European countries. Currently, there is no information on when the drug will be available in Tanzania.

How is it used?

As mentioned earlier, patients only need to receive one injection per month instead of taking daily pills. Additionally, individuals who want to protect themselves from HIV can take the injection a month before engaging in risky activities without the fear of transmission.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES AND TREATMENT OF SLEEPING PARALYSIS?

Sleep researchers say that often feeling paralyzed by a nightmare and being unable to even lift a finger while sleeping is a sign that your body has failed to follow the steps of a specific sleep cycle, and occasionally it can be a symptom of mental illnesses.

For many generations, this condition has been strongly associated with witchcraft, spirits, and demons in various societies, and some people with beliefs rebuke it fervently based on their faith, even though experts believe this condition has no connection to dark forces.

How does this condition occur?

In normal circumstances, when a person is drifting into sleep, the entire body first relaxes and loses strength before entering into sleep. However, in an abnormal situation, the body relaxes and loses strength, but the brain remains awake. During this time, you may be unable to move, feel a presence in your room, experience pressure and a pushing sensation toward the ground, and feel intense fear.

What is the cause?

The direct cause of this problem is not recognized, but it is associated with the following factors:

  1. Sleep deprivation.
  • Irregular sleep schedules, especially for night shift workers and sometimes day workers like security guards and healthcare providers.
  • Mental illnesses.
  • Anxiety disorders.
  • Traumatic memories from the past, especially for soldiers who have been to war, individuals who have experienced sexual assault, or those who have encountered difficult events in the past (PTSD).
  • Family history of this disorder.

Treatment

There is no direct medication to cure this condition, but treatment depends on the underlying cause, such as addressing sleep deprivation, anxiety, mental illnesses, and traumatic memories with sleep aids or anti-anxiety medications.

Prevention

  • Ensure sufficient sleep, around 6 to 8 hours.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Maintain a consistent sleep schedule, going to bed and waking up at the same time every day.
  • Avoid heavy meals, alcohol, cigarettes, and coffee before bedtime.
  • Avoid sleeping on your back, as many experience this issue when sleeping in this position.

WHAT CAUSES WEIGHT LOSS STAGNATION?

If you have ever engaged in exercise and reduced your food intake to lose weight, you may have noticed that initially, the weight loss occurs rapidly, but at some point, it seems to plateau. This phenomenon is known as a weight loss plateau, where your body reaches a point of stagnation in shedding more weight, even with continued exercise and a controlled diet. People often feel discouraged, finding themselves in the same weight range for an extended period, despite consistent efforts over months or even years.

What causes this?

Initially, when you reduce your food intake, your body starts using stored energy, such as glycogen in muscles and the liver, which is accompanied by some water weight loss. This initial phase leads to a quick reduction in weight. As you continue to lose weight, both fat and muscle are affected. Muscles play a role in fat burning through metabolism, so if muscle mass decreases, the rate of fat burning also decreases. This is when the plateau effect sets in – the amount of food you eat matches the fat burned per day, and further weight loss becomes challenging.

What can be done?

  1. Reduce food intake: Eat slightly less than your current intake – ideally, around three-quarters or even half of it. This helps increase daily fat burning while consuming fewer calories. Some people make the mistake of changing their entire diet at this stage, which can set them back.

  2. Increase exercise: Experts recommend at least half an hour of exercise at least three times a week. However, during the plateau, it's advised to increase the duration to at least one hour to boost fat burning.

Other considerations include reducing or quitting alcohol, ensuring sufficient sleep (around eight hours), and staying well-hydrated, as water helps in feeling full for longer periods.

In conclusion, reaching your desired weight doesn't mean the end of exercise and a controlled diet. It should become a part of your lifestyle. You can indulge in occasional treats, but maintaining a balance with your diet and exercise routine is essential to stay at your desired weight

THESE ARE 9 WAYS TO BE SUCCESSSFULLY IN BODY BUILDING EXERCISES.

Many men between the ages of 18 and 40 prefer to engage in weightlifting or doing push-ups to build strong, attractive bodies, often referred to as a "sexy body." In the pursuit of these goals, there are several important factors to consider to succeed:

Set Clear Goals: Often, people go to the gym without specific goals in mind, which can lead to a lack of direction and motivation. Defining what you want to achieve, such as a broader chest, toned arms, or a leaner abdomen, is essential within a certain timeframe. Setting achievable goals helps you stay focused and motivated.

Choose the Right Equipment and Weight: Using expensive equipment or going to an upscale gym won't necessarily yield quicker results. It's important to select appropriate exercises and weights. Ensure that the weight you choose allows you to complete around 15 repetitions in one set. It may be too heavy for you if you can only do five repetitions.

Don't Work Out Alone: When starting a fitness journey, having a coach or experienced workout partner can be invaluable. They can guide you on proper form, and technique, and help you avoid common mistakes. Working out with others can also provide motivation and accountability.

Take It Slow: Unlike many other forms of exercise, weightlifting requires a slow and controlled approach. Rushing through repetitions can lead to injuries. Focus on the full range of motion, both during the lifting and lowering phases of each exercise. Gradually increase the intensity and weight as your strength improves.

Rest: Allow your body to recover between sets and exercises. Taking at least three to four minutes of rest between different exercises is crucial. Research shows that rest is essential for muscle growth and overall progress. Don't work out every day; it's beneficial to have at least two rest days per week to allow your muscles to recover and grow.

Plan Your Workouts: Have a structured workout plan that targets different muscle groups on different days. For example, you can dedicate one day to working on your chest, another to your arms, and another to your abs. Avoid doing all exercises in a single session, as this may not be as effective.

Nutrition: Your diet is fundamental. Consuming enough protein is essential for muscle growth and recovery. Include sources of protein like lean meat, fish, dairy, nuts, and legumes in your diet. Be mindful of your calorie intake and aim for a balanced diet that supports your fitness goals.

Supplements: Protein shakes and supplements can benefit those struggling to meet their protein requirements through food alone. However, consult with a healthcare professional before adding supplements to your diet.

Don't Give Up: The most crucial factor is perseverance. Results in fitness take time and consistency. If you give up too soon, you won't see the changes you desire. Stay patient, stay committed, and keep working towards your goals.

Remember that everyone's body is different, and what works for one person may not work the same way for another. It's essential to listen to your body, adapt your workout routine as needed, and seek professional guidance if you're unsure about any aspect of your fitness journey.
